As I read your post I am forced to think about my own aging network equipment and the small budget I have with which to fix it. Working in education you come to realize that things like redundancy just don't seem to ever materialize past the point of writing the letter of intent. Education like other environments is purely reactionary. Money is appropriated when the need arises. Hopefully your testing software writes an answer file to the local drive so that test results are not completely lost. Sorry I don't have any answers for you as I am looking for them myself.
